Step 1, The preparation

Before starting to paint, you need to make sure that you have all the tools and accessories prepared for your painting job. There are a couple of things that are involved when you go ahead with painting a house or apartment or anything in general.

Get the tools

A part of preparing for your painting would be to gather your tools for the painting job. The types of tools that you will need for any painting would be...

  • A roller is one of the most important tools that a painter needs to have. The roller is used for applying the paint on to walls quickly, it is much faster and easier to use a roller than a paintbrush because you can cover a large area in a short amount of time but with a paintbrush you would have to slowly cover large areas.
  • A paintbrush is highly used by painters all over the world. Having a paintbrush on hand is extremely important for any beginner or advanced painter in Dublin. Typically you would use a paintbrush to cover small areas like wall sides where a roller would not fit.
  • Some putty is an important item that you should invest in when doing some large paint jobs. Putty allows you to easily fix walls or surfaces that have cracks in them. Putty is applied and left to dry for about 30 minutes before you can paint over it. When applying the putty, make sure to use a wet tool to wipe off any excess that is left. Once the putty is dried, always make sure to sand down the area where you applied the putty so that it becomes even and aligned with the wall.
  • Quality Paint is obviously needed when you do any painting job. Make sure that the paint you buy is quality made, don't buy cheap paint online as this could make your house renovation looking worse than it did before. To buy quality paint, make sure that you read all the reviews either online or ask in the store about the paint quality.
  • Spare Clothes is necessary when you are preparing for painting. Since painting is a messy job, there is a high chance that you might accidentally pour some over yourself. If this does happen, you can try and remove the paint by washing it off with some warm and soapy water right away and put on your spare clothes that you brought with you.
  • Floor Cover is needed to ensure that you do not spill any paint by accident on the customers or your own floor. A floor cover can be used from any old material like cardboard or even some old clothes that you don't plan on using anymore. If some paint does get on your floor, you will need to try and was it off with warm water, make sure that it doesn't dry before you start washing it off or it will be much harder.

Step 2, Mixing your paint

Once you have got your paint from a reliable and quality seller, you will need to mix it all together to ensure that there will be no shade differences when painting your surface. When mixing your paint, you have to make sure that you have bought enough paint to finish your paint job all in one go. To mix the paint, we recommend you get a large bucket at about 20 liters so that you can dump in about 3 or 4 canisters of paint. Using this method of mixing paint is highly important as it will eliminate the chance of having bad paint shades when you open a new canister of paint as all canisters can have slightly different color shades which is highly noticeable on a white surface like a wall or ceiling.

Step 3, Using the correct painting techniques

There are many different techniques that are used when doing some painting. Many are right and some are wrong and lucky for you, we will go through the top painting techniques used in 2020.

  • Paint from left to right is an important rule to remember when doing some house painting for yourself or your customer. Using this tactic when painting make sure that you will not miss out any spots while painting and will ensure that no paint streaks are left since you will be going in the same motion through out the wall. Also make sure to start all streaks from the top and drag it all the way down to the bottom of the wall.
  •  Keep the roller wet and loaded all the time. Also make sure that you never let your roller dry out more than 50% because if it drys out more than that, you run the risk of leaving dry spots on your wall and this will give you color imbalances when you paint over the dry spots. If you paint over dry spots, it creates a second layer which will make the color more dense and it will more than likely have a darker shade.

  • Use a paintbrush where the surface area is smaller than the width of your roller. Mainly a paintbrush is only used when your roller can't fit in the area that you are painting, or you need to paint around some object.
