Correct Painting Techniques

Painting is not an easy task especially if you are doing it the first time. Make sure to get a little bit of information about painting if you plan to experiment in your home or maybe in somebody else house. Painting can sometimes be a fun task but sometimes annoying so it all depends if you are doing ti right or not. We will be happy to tell you the top painting techniques that we have learnt over the past 5 years of painting in Dublin

1.Use Masking Tape

When starting to paint, make sure to apply some masking tape to all the edges of where you are planning to paint. This is important to do because it will ensure that you do not get any paint on walls that are close to your painting area. Masking tape can be bought in most hardware stores around Dublin like in woodies of B&Q have a large selection of masking tape ready for use. Masking tape is quite cheap and easy to use. When applying masking tape, make sure to cut off small pieces at a time because if you cut of too long of a piece it can get tangled and stick to each other. Make sure to remove the masking tape in under 24 hours after you have applied it as it tends to stick on to the paint and can sometimes rip off with the paint if left for too long.

2.Painting Direction

Painting direction is an important one. Make sure that when you are painting, you paint from left to right and from top to bottom. This painting technique will ensure that you get the full coverage of the wall and there won't be any missed spots since you were always going in one direction. Also when painting make sure to never let your paint roller go completely dry, if you let your roller completely dry out then you risk the chance of over painting your previous stroke which can cause uneven shades of paint. When painting make sure to stroke from top to bottom and re apply paint to the roller regularly, usually a good rule is to paint 2 strokes and dip your roller in paint to ensure that it does not dry out.

3. Paintbrush Use

When you have painted your main area with a roller, there will be parts of the wall that you could not get to, like windowsills or cracks. This is where the paintbrush comes to good use, you can paint all the small places that you could not get to while painting with a roller. For this you can use any type of paintbrush, but make sure that your paintbrush can fit inside the small cracks that you could not paint with a roller. After you finished painting, make sure that you clean after yourself and remove any paint the accidentally got on the floor while you were painting. Also after your painting is over, make sure to clean your paintbrushes and rollers thoroughly and as quick as possible, don't let the paint dry on the paint brush or else your tools will be ruined. Wash the paintbrushes and rollers good with water and soap if necessary and make sure the water is warm as warm water will clean out the hardened paint faster by making it into a liquid.
